Blue Value™ Day 2026: MCE employees and families take part in local clean up initiative in Düsseldorf

Düsseldorf, Germany – June 2026

Mitsui Chemicals Europe GmbH (MCE) held its annual Blue Value™ Day on 10 June 2026, bringing together approximately 50 employees and their family members for a one‑day, voluntary clean‑up activity in Düsseldorf.

The initiative focuses on environmental awareness, community engagement and practical action. It forms part of MCE’s Blue Value™ activities, an internal Mitsui Chemicals Group concept used to reflect environmental and social value creation in different contexts. Blue Value™ is not presented as an independent sustainability certification or external label.

The day began at the Technical Solutions Center laboratory in Düsseldorf, where participants attended introductory sessions on the Blue Value™ concept and the objectives of the activity. Discussions covered topics such as waste management, recycling practices and the role of individual behaviour in everyday environmental responsibility.

Following the sessions, participants were divided into groups and assigned to clean‑up locations across Düsseldorf, including Benrath Castle, Elbroich Castle, Niederheider Forest and Mickeln Castle. Equipped with gloves, bags and other materials provided with the support of the Umweltamt Düsseldorf, employees and their families collected litter in selected public areas.

During the activity, participants collected a total of 164 kilograms of waste. The initiative provided a practical opportunity to contribute to cleaner local surroundings and to engage directly with the topic of waste collection and disposal in a local context. Feedback from passers‑by indicated visible interest and appreciation for the activity.

As part of the program, participants also discussed broader sustainability topics during the introductory sessions. This included examples of how different materials are used in society and how product design, responsible use, and effective collection and recycling systems influence overall resource efficiency. These discussions were intended to provide a balanced perspective and highlight the importance of considering both benefits and challenges in material use.

After the clean‑up activities, participants returned to the laboratory for a reflection session, where they shared observations and experiences from the day. The program concluded with refreshments and informal networking, supporting exchange across teams and departments.

Blue Value™ Day is conducted as a recurring, employee‑driven activity designed to encourage practical engagement at a local level. While the initiative focuses on awareness and community participation, it represents a small, site‑level contribution rather than a comprehensive environmental solution.
