Blue Value Day & Sustainability Summit 2025
2025.07.10
On June 24th, 2025, Mitsui Chemicals Europe GmbH (MCE) hosted its Blue Value Day & Sustainability Summit – a joint event by the General Affairs and Corporate Sustainability Groups. A total of 42 participants, including employees and family members, came together at the new MCE office on Helmholtzstraße to learn, take action, and contribute to the local community and a cleaner environment.
Sustainability Summit
The event kicked off with MCE’s first Sustainability Summit, which invited the participants to reflect on their actions – as part of the organization and as individuals. The Corporate Sustainability Group opened the summit with a keynote, explaining the concept of the triple-bottom-line – measuring business success not only by profit, but also by its impact on society and the environment – and emphasizing the importance of cross-functional collaboration to achieve sustainability goals.
The summit continued with guest speeches from two partner organizations: Becken Development GmbH, the developer of the new office building, provided insights into the construction process and highlighted the sustainable features, which meet the EG40 efficiency standard, the highest standard currently applicable in Germany. AWISTA GmbH, Duesseldorf’s waste management company, explained how the city handles waste and how individuals can contribute by properly sorting and actively reducing waste. To conclude the summit, the Corporate Sustainability Group shared insights on how to properly communicate as a socially and environmentally responsible company.
Blue Value Day & global Clean-up Caravan
As practical part of the event the Blue Value Day followed, now in its fourth edition since its launch in 2022. The objective was to collect as much litter as possible to make the city a little cleaner, raise awareness about the waste issue, generate a positive impact on the local community, and inspire others to take action. Blue Value Day is part of the global Mitsui Chemicals “Clean-up Caravan” launched in 2019: Various affiliates around the world undertake clean-up activities in public spaces to prevent litter from entering waterways and further worsening marine pollution.
This year at MCE, five groups set out from the office towards public areas and parks across the city to collect litter on the way and on-site. The result was a total of 50 kilograms of waste collected. The joint event concluded with a get-together in the office’s Value Co-Creation (VCC) Space, offering Japanese food, karaoke and time to connect.
We thank the Environment Agency, the City of Düsseldorf, AWISTA GmbH, and Becken Development GmbH for their valuable contributions and continuous support. We are committed to continuing our contribution to the local community and our environment.
